A world of rebels

This project aims to narrate the stories of "Everyday Rebels", people that everyday fight relentlessly for climate justice.
Filippo Racanella, born in 1997 became 25 years old right after graduating in Energy Engineering at the Polytechnic of Turin. Right now he works within the Polytechnic on the research for sustainable heavy haul transport systems while creating photographic/videos content about his journeys around the planet and Fridays For Future.

One of the only two sunny days...

A behind the scenes shot on top of PoliTO's Energy Center. Also the last sunny day of December 2022.

More about it

How we decided to tell their stories.

In order to tell the story of Filippo, we have chosen to let him speak for himself; through photos and quotes, Filippo takes us along on his journeys, appreciating the beautiful things the world has to offer. Trying to have a direct impact on the development of new technologies and energy systems whilst documenting it, everything becomes a viable way to share and introduce the reality around you, as well as those that inspire you the most, to new people.

Cool, but how did this project took shape?

This was a university project that started in late 2022 and was published in early 2023. One of the reasons we chose to work with Filippo was his professional background: as an engineer actively developing carbon-negative technologies, we thought he would be the perfect candidate—an activist through and through.
Many of the choices that shaped this project were dictated by the weather. We were tasked with shooting a video scheduled to air in late March, but the filming took place in December. To avoid alienating the audience, we had to find ways to hide the snow during the shoot. This challenge, in particular, forced us to film everything over just two days, making use of the only sunny, snow-free days we had in mid-December.
The indoor shots were recorded on a third, snowy day and required extensive color correction and editing to conceal the snow—though you can still see it on the building’s large glass façade (that white is not caused by light, but by snow stuck on top of the glass).

The video was shot at PoliTO’s Energy Center in Turin, Italy.
